Light for Orphans Ministry

There is an orphan crisis in Uganda. Currently the country is home to nearly 3.4 million children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS, extreme poverty and civil conflict. In fact, Uganda has the largest orphan population per capita of any country in the world.

Light for Orphans Ministry is looking for those special people that God has laid on their heart the ministry of giving.

Even though the Light for Orphans Ministry (LFOM) must be registered and licensed with the government of Uganda, they receive no support because they are a Christian ministry. LFOM is home to 55 children and a tiny staff of six.

The staff has nothing of value, they receive no salary. At one point, Kirunda Moses, the director of LFOM even sold his computer to get money to buy some rice for the children to eat. All of these children have

lost parents to the AIDS epidemic. Some have critical health issues

themselves.

Like all children, they need regular immunizations, dental care, have

injury causing accidents, need shoes and clothing. None of these services

are free to the LFOM family. Their daily needs – food, shelter, medical,

clothing and education – are provided by a small group of dedicated

supporters (about twelve), here in the US and one in Australia. But the cost

of these basic needs increases monthly. There has been about a 30% rise in

the cost of food, both dry staples and fresh food items over the last couple of

months. School fees are $4,400 per semester, at 3 per year, for the 55

children. All thanks and glory to God we have purchased a beautiful housing

facility for $60,000 dollars - mortgage payment of $1000 per month.

Helen Cook, who is involved in LFOM stateside, recently told me that there are many scams coming out of the Nigerian region of Africa. She recommended that I steer those interested in contacting this ministry to Kirunda directly thru his facebook page or via email (see below):

TESTIMONY

“I grew up in a misery, psychological torture, lack and once                                                                              lost hope of ever having access to what other children had and I                                                                            realized that I was not alone but many more elsewhere, were in the                                                                    same situation and to a larger extent with the orphaned children,

It is under such afflictions and the increasing rate of the orphans that

we opened Light For Orphans Ministry so that we can try reach out

to those orphans who lost hope in their lives and we try regain their

lost hope. I discovered that losing a parent or both is not the end of

the world because so many doors can still be open, what matters is

how one chooses to go through the open doors. So, if given a hand

Light For Orphans Ministry can regain the hope and their lost glory.

We are located in Iganga, Uganda East Africa where we are based with an orphanage caring

for 50 orphans who are within the orphanage and we also help some widows who are in afflictions,

we are still renting the place we keep these kids.” — Kirunda  Daniel Moses, Director of Light for Orphans
